However, this record has a sad reason and a sad date. It is from November 25th, the worst day in years for the soccer world, the day that Diego Maradona passed away at 60 years old. And that had a lot to do with what Cristiano Ronaldo's new record in the pictures social media. 

That is because CR7's farewell post was the most liked of the year, going over 19 million likes. Also, this is the first time the most liked Instagram post of any natural year is soccer related. In that post, Ronaldo talked about his friendship with Maradona and his mourning for one of the best, who will never be forgotten.

His death was cried over everywhere and on that day, Instagram, got filled of pictures about him. The Argentinian and the Portuguese had had a good relationship before, and Diego Maradona even delivered him The Best award in one opportunity, a few years ago.
