The first thing that comes to mind when thinking about David Beckham is "famous soccer player." Since kicking a soccer ball for the first time, David Robert Joseph Beckham (born May 2nd, 1975 in London, England) has become a sports phenomenon. Manchester United showed interest in young David, when he was just 11-years old.

The second thought would most likely be "he's a worldwide celebrity," which is also correct. Together with his wife, Victoria Beckham (born Victoria Addams, former pop-star in the Spice Girls), David Beckham became a fashion icon: clothing designers, health and fitness experts, fashion magazines, and perfume and cosmetics companies all wanted to hire the couple as ambassadors.

Achievements and career

David Beckham began his professional career with Manchester United in 1992, when he signed a contract with them. His debut appearance came when he was 17 years old, and he rapidly proved himself as a goal scorer, assisting the team win not only the Premier League and FA Cup, but also the UEFA Champions League in 1999. In a match against Greece in 2001, his last-minute free kick secured England's qualification for the 2002 World Cup. Nice, right?

After many years at Manchester United, he was acquired by Spanish Real Madrid in 2003, where he teamed up with big stars at the time, such as Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane. He played for the club for four years, scoring many goals.

In 2002 the movie Bend It Like Beckham was released in the USA, and Americans began to fall in love with the soccer player. So when he signed a deal in 2007 with the L.A. Galaxy, they were thrilled: the Galaxy sold over 5,000 season tickets within 48 hours of Beckham’s signing. He played in the club for five seasons, and he also spent some time on loan at A.C. Milan.

He moved to France to play for Paris Saint-Germain in 2013, where he signed a five-month contract. Even though his stay was brief, David Beckham won a title with the french club, and a few days after that, on May 16, 2013, 38-year-old Beckham announced his retirement.
