Soccer is a sport that needs a good physical condition from the players. It is very unlikely to watch soccer players performing in a good way without being in a good physical condition. Nowadays that happens even less, as the technology and the training techniques have evolved a lot and soccer is a more physical sport.

Nevertheless, there are several cases of soccer idols who had problems with weight. Many of them occurred after retirement, even though when they played professionally, they also had a certain problem to reach their ideal weight. Eating good and training regularly every day is a must for these athletes, despite many of them couldn’t respect it as they would have like to.

One of the most emblematic cases of this situation is the one of Diego Armando Maradona, one of the greatest soccer players of all-times. Compared to Pelé, Lionel Messi or Cristiano Ronaldo, Maradona was very undisciplined and didn’t like to train and loved to eat and party. After his retirement, he was very fat and couldn’t have his perfect physic never again.

Another player with weight issues was mythical attacker Ronaldo Nazario, who experienced several troubles in his knees during all of his career and, after retirement, went fat. To complete the list, we can mention other cases as Ronaldinho, Adriano, Salvador Cabañas, Ailton, Humberto Suazo and Javier Lozano.
