The reasons why NYCFC lets Mitrita go with Romania and not Callens with Peru

NYCFC had announced that Callens could not go to represent Peru on the date for the Qatar 2022 qualifiers but recently authorized the Romanian player Mitrita to travel to Europe. The decision of New York City FC was surprising as it had been against FIFA's request to loan players to its selected teams.

Mitrita would have especially asked to go to Europe to play for his national team, Romania, and also to fix some personal problems he has in his country. NYCFC accepted Mitrita's request and the player will travel to Romania. Callens would not be very happy with the NYCFC decision and would have shown his dissatisfaction with the New York team.

Mitrita is not one of the best players in NYCFC but he had won the title in recent games. That he is not an indispensable piece in NYCFC is one of the reasons why they let him go. The coach believes that Callens is fundamental in the team while Mitrita can be easily supplanted.

Another reason why the player was allowed to travel is because they believe that in Europe the risk of contagion is lower than in South America, so they want to take care of their players, as in the case of the denial by Callens. Mitrita will miss at least 4 games since when he returns he will have to do a mandatory quarantine.
