The upcoming FIFA Qualifiers are around the corner and Gerardo “Tata” Martino already revealed the players that will be on the roster for the games against Jamaica, Costa Rica and Panamá, but in his list, the absence of Marcelo Flores surprised everyone.

After debuting with El Tri last December in a friendly match against Chile that ended in a 2-2 draw, Mexican followers were hoping that Marcelo Flores would become a regular in Martino’s squad, especially after becoming a starter in Arsenal U-23, where he’s scored 3 goals in less than a week.

But Martino decided to keep him out of the final roster, something that, added to the fact that Canada called Flores to be part of their national team and even offered him housing and a scholarship to keep preparing himself, could mean the end of his short stint with El Tri.

What did Marcelo Flores decide?

The 18-year-old offensive midfielder said in an interview that he still wants to be part of Mexico National Team, which is why he declined Canada’s invitation to join them and even might refuse to play for England if the call arrives.
