Lionel Scaloni’s team beat Ecuador in the qualifiers for the Qatar 2022 World Cup and all the cameras pointed at Lionel Messi. Not only he has broken a new record, but also, he is really close of breaking a new one and overcome Brazil’s star Pelé on the amount of goals scored for the south American competition.
Messi has now 634 goals and 255 assists with FC Barcelona, and also 71 goals and 40 assists with the Argentina International team. That gives him an amount of 1000 goal participations which is out of this planet becoming one of the greatest goalscorer of all time.
Besides, with this last goal he has achieved 71 goals with Argentina and is only 6 goals away of overcoming one of the greatest footballers of all time, Pelé. The Brazilian striker has scored 77 goals in all the competitions he had played for the team and that included winning 3 World Cups Tournaments.
The south American qualifiers for the World Cup are tough and the team did not show a really good performance on the pitch. However, it is hard to think that Messi will not score 6 more goals for Argentina considering that to qualify to the World Cup, each team has to play at least 18 matches.
