After failing in their pursuit of young striker Erling Haaland for a reported fee of £130m, Chelsea turned their attention to their former player Romelu Lukaku and broke their club transfer record to bring him back to Stamford Bridge for £97m to help the club lead the line after the departure of Olivier Giroud and Tammy Abraham and with Timo Werner misfiring.

Inter Milan signed 35year old striker Edin Dzeko as a replacement for Lukaku who scored 24 goals and assisted 11 goals for the Inter Milan title winning side last year. He was named the league's best player last season but couldn't turn down the offer from Chelsea because he had unfinished business at the club.

Romelu Lukaku scored on his second Chelsea debut against Arsenal, clearly dominating the match. He scored two more goals in the London derby against Tottenham Hotspur and also scored the winner in the Champions League match against Zenit St Petersburg. His replacement Edin Dzeko has scored six goals and one assist in seven league games.

Edin Dzeko has had the best start to the season among the two but at 35, he is surely nearing his retirement age. Lukaku on the other hand is 28 and could be trusted to lead the line for Chelsea for the next years and will surely be worth the club's investment in the long run.
