There are not so many records that do not have the name Lionel Messi on them. And there are not so many of Messi's teammates that have outperformed the Argentine metronome. However, Dani Alves has managed to do both by holding a particular record that the 6-time Ballon d'Or winner does not have.
Dani Alves has won the highest number of trophies of any professional football player. The 38-year-old defender recently captained the Brazilian U-23 side to Olympic Gold in Tokyo. This brought his tally to 43 senior titles throughout the course of his career. His trophy haul includes six La Liga titles, three Champions League crowns, two Europa League triumphs, three at the Club World Cup, one Serie A title, the Coppa Italia, two Ligue 1 successes, two Copa America wins and Olympic gold.
Meanwhile, Messi comes second to Dani Alves with 38 trophies won in the course of his career at Barcelona and Argentina. Messi has also won an Olympic Gold medal, leading Argentina to victory in 2008. Amongst Messi's impressive trophy haul are 10 La Liga titles, 4 UEFA Champions League titles and 3 FIFA Club World Cups.
After Alves won Olympic gold, Messi sent a message to him, telling him he is coming for his record. With an expected move to PSG and almost total domination of the French domestic scene by the Parisians, it can be expected that Messi would break this record soon. However, Alves might also still add to his trophy haul, having agreed to move to the Brazilian club side, Sau Paolo.
