Bayern Munich have won a tight FIFA Club World Cup Final over Tigres in Qatar. The 1-0 win, with a controversial goal scored by Benjamin Pavard. That meant the second title in this competition for the German giants, who are reigning European champions too. But the happiest man in the world after this is their coach, Hansi Flick. His achievement, in terms of pure stats, is extraordinary.

After retiring from soccer in 2000, having spent four years as a double-role player and coach in regional league club Victoria Bammertal, Flick started his full-time coaching career. He set the bases for nowadays competitive Bundesliga team 1899 Hoffenheim. He took control of the team from 2000 to 2005 and was sacked after failing two attempts to reach second division Bundesliga 2.

He later became assistant to Joachim Löw, who is currently coaching German’s national team since 2004. He joined after 2006 World Cup in their home soil and stayed until they conquered the title against Argentina in the 2014 tournament, held in Brazil. He became the sporting director in Germany’s soccer federation in 2017, and later joined head coach Niko Kovac in Bayern Munich as his assistant.

Kovac departed by the end of 2019, and the board decided to promote Flick to the head coach role. After Thursday’s final match against Tigres, he coached the team in 68 games. His record states Bayern Munich won 58, then, they had five draws and five defeats. But during those 68 matches the club conquered no less than six titles: 2019-20 Bundesliga, DFB Pokal, UEFA Champions League, German Super Cup, European Supercup and the FIFA Club World Cup. Yes, he has more titles than lost games.
