The Copa America 2024 is quickly approaching, and many of the best South American players are ready to represent their nations. One of the best players from South America who will play in the Copa Amerca is Liverpool winger Luis Diaz. The Colombian player has been a crucial player for the Reds this season in the Premier League, but they weren’t able to win the Premier League title. Mundo Deportivo reports that FC Barcelona is interested in signing Luis Diaz. The issue with this signing is that Barcelona will need to negotiate a transfer fee deal with Liverpool, as the Colombian’s contract with the Reds expires in the summer of 2027. Liverpool valued the player over $126 million, but now the Reds could be open to selling him for a fee of around $82.5 million. Barcelona would need to sell a valuable player to make the deal possible this summer.

In November 2023, Luis Diaz’s father was asked if his son ever dreamed of ever playing for FC Barcelona or Real Madrid. His father said, “It’s true that Luis is a Barcelona follower, but he’s never come to me and said ‘hey dad I’m attentive at this’ or anything. For now I just thank the way Porto and Liverpool have welcomed my kid. I know very little about this topic; all we see about it is online. It’s true that it’ll be a dream for him to play there but at the moment I just thank the way he’s been welcomed. This caused controversy amongst Liverpool fans, and some even wanted Diaz to join Barcelona since they believed that the player was treating Liverpool as a ‘stepping stone’ to play for FC Barcelona one day. The Colombian winger joined Liverpool in January 2022 from FC Porto.
Luis Diaz’s 23/24 season with Liverpool
Luis Diaz made a total of 51 appearances for Liverpool this season across all competitions. The Colombian scored 13 goals and provided five assists across all competitions. Liverpool finished third in the Premier League table with 82 points and will play Champions League football next season. Liverpool won the EFL Carabao Cup this season after defeating Chelsea 1-0 in Wembley Stadium.
