Top scorers of the 2021 MLS season

Valentín Castellanos, Ola Kamara, Chicharito Hernández, Raúl Ruidíaz, and Hany Mukhtar were the top 5 scorers in MLS 2021 season. ‘Taty’ Castellanos the New York City forward scored 19 goals during the regular season to become the best goal scorer of the MLS campaign. In addition, he scored three more goals in the playoffs that helped the citizens to become champions for the first time in their history after beating Portland Timbers in penalty shootouts. 

Ola Kamara tied for the top spot with 19 goals for D.C. United. The Norweigan, despite not being a popular player, wrote his name on the list of top scorers this season. On the other hand, the Mexican player Chicharito Hernández scored 17 goals in 21 games played, having the best goal per game average. The Peruvian Raúl Ruidíaz also scored 17 goals for Seattle Sounders in 26 games.

And the top 5 is closed by Hany Mukhtar, the German offensive midfielder that scored 16 goals for Nashville. 

Other scorers on the list

The Argentinian Gustavo Bou scored 15 goals for New England Revolution, the team that accrued the most points during the regular season but that were knocked out by 2021 MLS Cup champions, New York City FC.

Colombian forward for Los Angeles FC, Cristian Arango, scored 14 goals in 17 games played. Meanwhile, the youngest player on the list and U.S. national soccer player Ricardo Pepi, scored 13 goals in 31 games. The Dallas forward is considered the next promising player of the USMNT. 

Former Juventus player Gonzálo ‘Pipita’ Higuaín, helped his team with 12 goals but were not enough for Inter Miami CF to reach the playoffs. His compatriot Lucas Zelarayán scored the same amount of goals for the 2020 MLS Cup champions Columbus Crew.

Javier ‘la chófis’ López, former Chivas of Guadalajara player also scored 12 goals in 32 games under Matías Almeyda orders and Venezuelan player Josef Martínez scored 12 goals for Atlanta United.
