If Cristiano Ronaldo joins Monterrey CF in Liga MX, the Portuguese striker could face his former Real Madrid teammate Javier "Chicharito" Hernandez. The two played each other in one season at Real Madrid, specifically in the 2014/2015 season. Chicharito was at Real Madrid on loan from Manchester United with an option to buy. The Mexican striker currently plays at Chivas de Guadalajara, one of the most successful Mexican clubs ever. Monterrey is currently one of the richest clubs in Mexico trying to create their own history, and Ronaldo would want to win league titles with Monterrey to catch up to the great clubs of Mexican football like Chivas and Club America.
In his loan spell at Real Madrid, Chicharito made 33 appearances in all competitions for Los Blancos. Hernandez registered nine goals and nine assists and often came off the bench. His first goal for Real Madrid was against Deportivo La Coruña in La Liga with a great shot from outside the box.
Hernandez won the 2014 FIFA Club World Cup with Real Madrid after beating San Lorenzo 2-0. Chicharito's most iconic goal for Real Madrid was the winner against Atletico Madrid in the quarterfinals of the Champions League at the Santiago Bernabeu. This goal gave Madrid the ticket to advance to the semi-finals of the Champions League, but the team did not go on to win the tournament. Chicharito played 29 games with Ronaldo at Real Madrid, and the Portuguese striker assisted the goal against Atletico Madrid.
Chicharito recently spoke about how it was playing with Cristiano Ronaldo on the same team. Some fans assumed that it would be hard to play with Ronaldo, but Hernandez shut that down.
In an interview with Paramount+, Chicharito said, "Cristiano was phenomenal in the locker room and also in his way of being. I don’t think I have met or seen a player who has come out to say that Cristiano is a difficult or complicated person. Cris is Cris. We know his personality and competitiveness, but as a team-mate that is one of the things you cannot take away.”
