Many reports and rumors in Mexico suggest that Cristiano Ronaldo could join Liga MX side Monterrey FC due to the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Al Nassr will not participate in the club World Cup, but Monterrey is already qualified for the tournament since the Mexican side won the CONCACAF Champions League/Cup in 2021. Nothing is confirmed at the moment, but since another new tournament is on the horizon, Ronaldo would like to experience it before he retires.
These rumors began when Cristiano Ronaldo experienced lots of criticism in Saudi Arabia for his behavior against the referees and perhaps the disrespect he received from opposition fans in stadiums. Rumors grew suggesting that Ronaldo would leave Al Nassr soon and potentially move to the United States at Inter Miami with Lionel Messi. Ronaldo's salary would decrease, but his contract in the MLS could include him having a stake in a club like Messi and David Beckham had.
Other rumors suggest that Ronaldo may want to return to Europe to play in the Champions League again to win the competition a sixth time in his career. His team choice could be Xabi Alonso's Bayer Leverkusen. The Portuguese striker and Alonso shared the locker room as teammates at Real Madrid and could get a place in the team to be competitive and get revenge against Bayern Munich, who refused to sign him due to his age. Ronaldo won four Champions Leagues with Real Madrid [2014, 2016, 2017, 2018] and one with Manchester United [2008].

Monterrey fans were not the biggest fans of Lionel Messi when Inter Miami faced Monterrey FC in the CONCACAF Champions Cup at the Estadio BBVA. The Mexican fans chanted Ronaldo's name to distract Messi and insulted the Argentine throughout the game.
