El Tri will face USMNT on March 24 in Estadio Azteca.

The crisis in which Santiago Solari left Club América seems to be bigger than it seemed, as they were left at the bottom of the table, with only six points after eight rounds of Clausura 2022. Although they’re tied with Monterrey in points, Rayados has a better goal difference, as Las Águilas have -6 and La Pandilla +1.

Who is Fernando Ortiz, Club América's interim coach to replace Santiago Solari?

For now, Fernando Ortíz, who will be interim coach, will have the challenge of helping Las Águilas leave the bottom of the table and finish the season with dignity, at least until Santiago Baños and Emilio Azcárraga decide who’s the coach that will replace Solari for good.

But the problems for Club América haven’t finished there, as Gerardo “Tata” Martino is only considering calling two players from Las Águilas, although a couple years ago they used to be the base of El Tri, a sign that América’s crisis is deeper than what it was thought.

According to sports journalist David Medrano, “Tata” Martino is considering only calling goalkeeper Guillermo Ochoa and right-back Jorge Sánchez, leaving forward Henry Martín out of the roster for the upcoming FIFA match window given the poor performances he’s had on the last month with Las Águilas.

The only way in which the Argentine coach could change his decision is if the 29-year-old striker manages to improve his numbers in the next few weeks, before Martino decides the final roster that will face USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador.

Who could be Martín’s replacement?

Although there’s a few players that could replace Henry Martín in El Tri, as most of the Mexican strikers haven’t been up to the minimum required to be part of the Aztec squad, Cruz Azul forward Santiago Giménez could be the player that takes his place, as he’s been contributing to La Máquina recently.

Other players that could be in Gerardo Martino’s radar are Atlas striker Julio Furch, who has yet to be called although he already has his citizenship and has been one of the best strikers in Liga MX since his arrival. Javier “Chicharito” Hernández could also be considered if there’s any other option.

Which club has more players in Martino’s roster?

Even if they’re also in the middle of a crisis and recently sacked Javier Aguirre to replace him with José Manuel Vucetich, Monterrey was the team that contributed with more players last FIFA match window, with five players.

Martino called Héctor Moreno, César Montes, Jesús Gallardo, Luis Romo and Rogelio Funes Mori for the games against Jamaica, Costa Rica and Panama, although he’s considering not calling Gallardo and Funes Mori for the last CONCACAF Qualifiers, given they’re going through a bad streak.
