The future of Carlos Acevedo is far away from Liga MX

And even if it’s become evident that Guillermo Ochoa is not the best goalkeeper that Mexico currently has, he has secured his place not only for the upcoming match window, but also for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, as Gerardo “Tata” Martino has had him on his starting XI since he arrived in El Tri.

It’s yet to see who are going to be the second and third goalkeepers that Martino will call for the remainder of the cycle, although the dispute is between Rodolfo Cota, Alfredo Talavera, and Jonathan Orozco, given that they’ve been the regulars in Martino’s calls.

The goalkeeper that has been erased by Martino, although he’s currently the best Mexican in Liga MX, with performances that go hand in hand with the ones of Paraguayan Antony Silva, from Club Puebla, or Colombian Camilo Vargas, from Atlas, is Carlos Acevedo, who knows that he’ll have to join one of the biggest Liga MX clubs if he wants to finally be part of Martino’s roster.

Where can he arrive?

Both Chivas and Cruz Azul might hate to start looking soon for a goalkeeper, as in El Rebaño Sagrado they haven’t found a reliable goalkeeper and in La Máquina, José de Jesús Corona could be living his last season with Cruz Azul colors.

But Acevedo knows that, in order to be considered to be part of El Tri, he needs to be where the spotlight is, which is why he could arrive in Club América on a move that not only will place him as the obvious generational chance in El Tri’s goal, but also will end with Ochoa’s stint.

Will Ochoa leave Club América?

The 35-year-old goalkeeper is living his last season with Las Águilas, as his contract ends in December. And although he still can negotiate his renewal, given his age, in Club América know they will have to offer him a 1-year deal from now on, as former América goalkeeper and current TV analyst Moisés Muñoz said during the broadcasting of the game between Club América and Gallos Blancos, something that won’t benefit either of the parts.
