Carlos Vela hasn’t played with El Tri since 2018.

The Mexican national team was able to ensure their presence in the 2022 FIFA World Cup thanks to the goals of Uriel Antuna and Raúl Jiménez that meant the 2-0 victory over El Salvador in the last game of the CONCACAF Qualifiers.

The striker that Hirving Lozano wants to play with in Mexico National Team

The game against El Salvador was the first since the 2-1 victory of the Aztec squad on their visit to Jamaica where El Tri was able to score more than one goal, which raises multiple questions, especially if the Mexican squad is going to have a worthy participation in Qatar 2022.

One of the things that worries Gerardo “Tata” Martino the most, is the lack of aim the Aztec squad has had, as they haven’t been able to score more than two goals since the group stage of the Gold Cup, in July last year.

That’s why Mexican followers have been wondering why Martino hasn’t reached out to Carlos Vela and convince him to return to El Tri, as he’s one of the most productive Mexican strikers, something he keeps proving in the 2022 MLS Season.

Will Carlos Vela return to El Tri?

Prior the FIFA match window of January, Carlos Vela announced his retirement from Mexico National Team during an interview for ESPN, as he said that he felt like his time has already passed and it was the chance for the younger generations to achieve what his generation couldn’t.

But even if he already said he won’t play again for El Tri, “El Bombardero” left the door open to an eventual return to the Mexican national team, according to reports from W Deportes, as he knows he still has a lot to give for at least the 2022 World Cup.

Martino is aware of the possibility of adding him to El Tri’s final roster for Qatar, although he knows that the only way it will happen is under one condition: having a compromise of working together with respect and discipline, something El Tri will need if they want to transcend in the World Cup.

Will Carlos Vela accept?

It’s yet to be seen if Vela agrees to the strict discipline that Martino wants to establish in El Tri’s camp, although he knows that if they want to reach the fifth game on the World Cup, it will be necessary to be fully focused.
