The 2-0 victory over El Salvador on Wednesday night gave Mexico National Team the points that they needed to finally ensure their ticket to the 2022 FIFA World Cup, and they were able to surpass USMNT given that the Stars and Stripes lost on their visit to Costa Rica.

El Tri ended as the second seeded from CONCACAF, tied in points with Canada but given that the goal difference favored the Canadians, Mexico had to settle for the second place, although either way they would have been part of the second pot of the Group Stage Draw.

The Aztec squad will have to wait until Friday to know who are the teams that they will face in the group stage of the World Cup, but it seems unrealistic to think they will avoid one of the best classified teams, as only Qatar seems manageable from the first pot.

Gerardo “Tata” Martino and some of the players know that there’s still much work left to be done, especially on the last third of the pitch, as the Mexican squad has been lacking the aim to score any other way that isn’t from the penalty mark, that’s why Hirving “Chucky” Lozano wants to have a different forward.

The striker that Lozano wants

Although Hirving Lozano complements well with both Raúl Jiménez and Jesús Manuel “Tecatito” Corona, he knows that the lack of goals they’ve had since playing together is something that will become a burden during Qatar 2022.

That’s why he wants to have Javier “Chicharito” Hernández back in El Tri, as the LA Galaxy forward always finds a way to be free inside the box and have a clear shot, something that neither of them were able to do during the Qualifiers.

It seems difficult that “Chicharito” makes his way back to a call-up, especially since Martino is very strict with the discipline rules he imposed when he first arrived, and given that Hernández broke them, the Argentine coach decided to erase him indefinitely, although there’s always a possibility.

Will he return to El Tri?

According to reports from sports journalist Enrique Bermúdez, Hernández and Martino already talked about the things that happened in 2019 and about an eventual return, as “Tata” knows that he can’t keep out of the roster one of the best strikers they had, especially since they haven’t been able to score regularly.
