The MLS has a slightly different transfer market than the rest of the leagues in the soccer world, particularly during the winter period. However, in the summer it is practically the same and, given the economic power that clubs in the United States have, they are capable of thinking about making big signings, as was already demonstrated with the arrival of Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez at Inter Miami.

Before David Beckham brought these former FC Barcelona stars, other great stars had come to MLS, including Becks, Thierry Henry, Kaká, Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney, to name a few. However, it seems that another great figure of world soccer could soon arrive in the U.S. league and would do so to join LAFC, a club that was left without its great figure Carlos Vela.

The 35-year-old Mexican attacker joined the LA franchise in 2018, when he decided to leave Real Sociedad in Spain to head LAFC's nascent project. Since then, Vela became the club's biggest star, leading the club to win three titles, including the MLS title. In addition, that championship-winning campaign, the Mexican was the MVP. However, it seems that his time in Los Angeles is over.

Vela and LAFC did not renew the striker's contract, which expired in December 2023 and since then he has been a free agent. Several reports claimed that LAFC wanted to renew his contract, but apparently the Mexican striker's salary demands were higher than what the LAFC board had in mind and for that reason, despite the fact that he has been the best player the club has ever had, it seems that their paths have parted for good. So much so, that there are already reports that indicate the possible replacement for Carlos Vela.

The world champion that LAFC wants to sign

After the departure of Carlos Vela, LAFC may give the franchise player slot to another player and according to journalist David Ornstein, the club is already in talks with Olivier Giroud, the Frenchman who won the World Cup in 2018. The AC Milan striker is finishing his contract with his current club, but apparently there are other clubs besides LAFC looking to sign him.
