Two of the so-called big teams failed against Tigres and Atlas and are going for a miracle to try to have an epic comeback in their second-leg matches.

Today, Liga MX fans are asking themselves: are these the big teams in Mexican soccer? Cruz Azul and Chivas lost and are complicated in the Liguilla 2022.

The question is very important because, in general, every time Cruz Azul and Chivas are mentioned, they are described as big teams, but this time they left much to be desired and were indebted to their fans. And in their stadiums.

Cruz Azul a big team? They lost at home and with their fans

The Cementeros had a good start at the Azteca stadium and were supported by their fans for most of the match, but the problems for La Máquina started earlier, in the lineup.

For some reason, Juán Reynoso continues to put his faith in Iván Morales, the Chilean striker who arrived in the Liga MX 2022 from Colo Colo as a goal scorer.

And one would think that coming from one of the monsters of South American soccer, the Chilean could become a reference in the Azul attack. And yes, he is, but as an accompanist and not as a striker, which is what the team needs.

They also faced Tigres with André Pierre-Gignac, who is always dangerous, but did not play well and tried to score in the 21st minute, but made a mistake and failed to score against Sebastián Jurado Roca.

But everything changed at minute 43 when Adrián Aldrete made what could be considered the mistake of the match, as it was what led to the goal.

It all happened very quickly: Dueñas put in a cross that Aldrete was unable to cut out and the ball went past him and ended up in the back of the net.

In this way, and even though Tigres were down a man at minute 60 when Nicolás "El Diente" López was sent off, they were left without a coach because Miguel Herrera was also sent off for complaining, and La Máquina was unable to tie the match.

Is Chivas a great team? They lost at home and with their people, and they scored a double in less than 17 minutes

On the other hand, in the first leg of the second game, Club Atlas vs Cruz Azul, the two teams that give life to the Clásico Tapatío, played against each other in a duel that was expected to be closed on the scoreboard, as both teams are in a good footballing moment.

However, the passage of time in the match put things in place and made the Rojiblancos see that the Rojinegros have better handling of the scoring opportunities.

And they learned this hard lesson from a 21-year-old who scored a brace in less than 17 minutes and made them and their fans doubt their greatness.

Jeremy Márquez's first goal came in the 28th minute of the match, after a couple of chances for both teams when the Atlas forward line went on the attack in the Chivas area.

Julián Quiñones got the ball after a series of rebounds and drove the ball to try to score but Miguel Jiménez Ponce was able to repel the shot, but on the rebound, Márquez got the ball and in front of Jiménez's goal he shot with his right foot.

The ball went into the net, making the score 0-1. And Márquez would repeat the dose a minute later, demonstrating his masterful ball control skills.

On an Atlas throw-in, Julio Furch wanted to head to goal but was prevented by a personal mark, so he headed a pass to Márquez, who was in the area.

Controlling with his right foot and finishing with the same leg, Zorro's midfielder made the score 0-2, with a shot that was not powerful but well placed.

However, the Rebaño Sagrado would show signs of life in the 54th minute, when a corner kick taken by Roberto "Piojo" Alvarado ended in a series of rebounds that left Cristian "Chicote" Calderón alone with the ball, but with his back to goal.

And without wasting any time, he turned and shot with a powerful shot, which went into the back of the net to make it 1-2 and seal the match at the Akron Stadium.

Even though Chivas fared better than Cruz Azul, both clubs decided to make life difficult for themselves by not looking for a draw, so they will now visit their rivals at their home stadiums, where neither Atlas nor Tigres will give their opponents a chance.
