The detail that stopped Chelsea from signing Rogelio Funes Mori

In 2009, a scout for English club Chelsea, Jorge Alvial saw Rogelio Funes Mori and his brother Ramiro Funes Mori playing for FC Dallas and offered them a trial in London with Chelsea.

They accepted the offer and travelled to London for the trial and it went very well but Chelsea decided not to sign them to professional contracts because they didn't have a community passport.

The scout then offered them to River Plate who signed them to professional contracts and from there began their professional careers. Rogelio went on to play in Europe for Benfica in Portugal and Eskisehirspor, while his brother player for Everton in England and Villarreal in Spain.

Rogelio currently plays for Monterrey in Mexico who are in the semifinal of the 2021 CONCACAF Champions League. He has played over 200 games and scored over 100 goals for the club.
