CF Monterrey had one of the worst starts in Liga MX with Javier Aguirre as their coach, given that for Clausura 2022, they were able to win just one game before Victor Manuel Vucetich took over the team after half of the season.

As if that wasn’t enough, Rayados couldn’t reach the semifinals of the 2021 FIFA Club World Cup, as they lost against the Egyptian Al-Ahly, who played without 13 of their players, including most oof their starters, and had to settle for the fifth place.

But now that they parted ways, Monterrey has become a contender for Clausura 2022, as they’ve won three games out of the four that Vucetich has coached and are slowly returning to the top part of the table, as they currently stand seven with 15 points and a pending game.

For Aguirre, it didn’t take long for things to return to the right track, as he found a new job less than a month after leaving Monterrey, as he now has the challenge of saving La Liga side RCD Mallorca from getting relegated.

Can he help them stay in La Liga?

Javier Aguirre decided to take the challenge as a way to clear his name from the recent failure he had in Liga MX, where he couldn’t make the roster with the highest value in Mexican soccer to play like a team of that quality.

He left Liga MX labeled as a coach that gives a cheap talk but doesn’t have a solid project, which is why he accepted to be paid a third of what he was earning in Rayados to help the Bermellones avoid relegation with only 9 games left in the schedule.

For now, Mallorca is standing 18 in La Liga just one point below Cádiz FC, who holds the last position that guarantees their stay in La Liga. But if Aguirre is known for something, is for making the most out of a team with the limitations that Mallorca currently has. And if he achieves his goal, he will remain as Mallorca’s coach for the next season.

Mallorca’s schedule for the remainder of La Liga

Three of the games that Mallorca has to play are against teams that are battling for a Champions League spot next season: Atlético Madrid, FC Barcelona and Sevilla FC, while four of them are going to be against teams that could be relegated if they don’t have good performances: Deportivo Alavés, Granada CF, Rayo Vallecano and Elche FC.
