Portland Thorns player Christine Sinclair was honored at The Best FIFA Football Awards for being the all-time leading scorer for national teams.

The gala took place this Monday, January 17, 2022, in which FIFA is responsible for recognizing the best in the world of soccer. This time the gala is being held virtually, due to the pandemic.

And the first award winner of the night was Christine Sinclair of the Portland Thorns, who won special recognition for being the top goal scorer in the history of national teams.

The player, who has just won the gold medal at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, has surprised the whole world with her goal-scoring record, which makes her a reference in world soccer history.

How many goals did Christine Sinclair score to be honored at The Best FIFA Football Awards?

The Portland Thorns striker has scored a staggering 188 career goals for Canada's national soccer team, a tally that would be the envy of any national soccer team.

After receiving the recognition, the player shared her words of gratitude through social networks.

"Thank you very much to FIFA for this recognition. Also, give them to my family, I had to leave home being very young to pursue my dreams... Today I am here thanks to them. I have had many successes in my career. I'll keep the friendships I've made," where the player's words.

Christine Sinclair has scored more goals for her national team than Cristiano Ronaldo

The Canadian striker has managed to surpass the Portuguese star in terms of the number of goals she has scored for her national team.

So far, CR7 has tallied 115 goals in total, while Sinclair has managed to score a brutal 188 goals for the Canadian squad.

Due to their ages, both are likely nearing the end of their careers, considering that both the Canadian and the Portuguese are well into their 30s.

Sinclair is 38 and Ronaldo is 36, so it is almost certain that the Manchester United player will never surpass the Portland Thorns striker's mark.

Or baseball player, as she also played basketball and baseball in her youth and, playing for a Burnaby boys' baseball team, made the U-11 All-Star team at second base.

She chose to play in the number 12 jersey as a tribute to renowned Toronto Blue Jays second baseman Roberto Alomar.

Considered the best player in the history of the Canadian national soccer team, Sinclair was born on June 12, 1983, and has participated in 5 World Cups, being the captain of her national team in 4 of those editions

In addition, Sinclair has participated in three Olympic Games, winning two bronze medals and gold in Tokyo 2020.

On the other hand, with the Portland Thorns, the player's work has been equally valuable and in 2021 she played 15 games with the team, all of them as a starter.

Throughout this campaign, the player was on the field for 1,234 minutes and scored 5 goals, and provided an assist for a goal, which makes it clear that no matter what team she plays for, she is always a guarantee of a goal.

And that is visible to anyone when analyzing her 8 seasons with the Thorns, in which she has scored 54 goals and provided 15 assists.
