The tournament, which marks the start of the NWSL 2022, is in its group stage and in Group A, the power that Sean Nahas' team showed was striking.

How did the North Carolina Courage beat Gotham FC?

The match was close at the beginning, but as the game went on, the Carolina players were much more inspired and connected to the game than the Gotham players.

With goals from Brianna Pinto and Abby Erceg, the Courage showed that they are lethal in attack and above all, that they are also strong defensively, as goalkeeper Katelyn Rowland managed to keep a clean sheet for the entire 90 minutes.

The goalkeeper made an incredible save to keep the visitors scoreless and above all, to put away Orlando Pride, Washington Spirit, and NY/NY Gotham FC.

What were the goals by Brianna Pinto and Abby Erceg like?

The match started off tight and throughout, Gotham defended well against the Carolina players' onslaught and did well, but Debora Cristiane de Oliveira, known as Debinha Miri, came out more than inspired.

She showed it with dribbles that left her opponents neutralized, and also made her presence felt on the scoreboard, serving a precise cross to the rival area that was finished off by Brianna Pinto, with a powerful header.

Ashlyn Harris jumped to try to stop the goal but reacted too late, as with her powerful header, Pinto would put the 1-0 in the match, and things would not end there for the Courage.

In the 51st minute, Debinha took a corner kick and sent the ball into the center of the opponent's box, and after a series of rebounds that the Gotham defenders could not avoid, Abby Erceg's shot came in.

The player did not make a normal shot but released a real cannon, which left Harris with nothing to do, who only saw the ball pass, with which the Courage put the final 2-0 of the match.

And goals were not the highlight of the night, but there were also debuts for both clubs, which is much needed for the generational change in NWSL soccer.

Making their debuts for this match were Tess Boade and Diana Ordonez, as well as Kiki Pickett, Malia Berkely, and Brianna Pinto for Courage.

The Courage move into first place in the Challenge Cup Power Rankings

With this result, the Courage is in first place in the competition with 7 points, followed in second place by the Chicago Red Stars with 5, the OL Reign in third with -1, as is the Portland Thorns FC, who are in 4th place.

They are followed by Angel City FC in 5th place with +4, San Diego Wave FC in 6th place with +4, Kansas City Current in 7th place with -2, Racing Louisville FC in 8th place with +3, and Washington Spirit in 9th place with -8 points.

Following these 8 clubs is Orlando Pride with +2, in tenth place, Houston Dash in 11th place with -5 points, and 12th place belongs to NY/NJ Gotham FC with -8 points.
