The war conflict between Russia and Ukraine is not alien to the world of sports. Thus, several soccer players have spoken out against the actions taken by Russian President Vladimir Putin. FC Barcelona midfielder on loan at Besiktas, Miralem Pjanic, spoke out about what children suffer in this situation.

The 31-year-old is no stranger to the pain suffered in an armed conflict. Pjanic experienced firsthand the confrontation of the Balkan or Yugoslav wars (in the 90s) as a child. For this reason, he has shown his solidarity with the Ukrainian people and, especially, with the children of the country that has been invaded by the Russian military.

Miralem indicated through his official Twitter account that thoughts of that episode still come to him when he hears sirens. The Bosnian was less than 6 years old when he went through that war event where his own life was at risk and he still did not understand what was happening.

"I was very young when I understood the meaning of the sirens. Every time I hear them, I think of what my friends went through. No child should be forced to live through this nightmare," he said.

Pjanic's message to Ukraine

The current Besiktas player sent this message to the children of the Eastern European country, after many of them had to be separated from their parents to go to the front line to fight against Russia.

On the other hand, many footballers are trying to leave Ukraine for fear of war. Ex-Bulgrana Marlon Santos and former Barça Femenino coach Lluís Cortés are some of them.
