After Mbappé's Champions League match, the reason why his announcement to Real Madrid is getting closer
Mbappé and PSG's loss to Borussia Dortmund makes Real Madrid fans happy
While PSG and Kylian Mbappé lost 1-0 against Borussia Dortmund in the first leg of the Champions League semi-final, Real Madrid fans celebrated as it could be the French star is getting closer to the Spanish club. Mbappé is reportedly set to join Real Madrid next season, but an announcement of the move is stopped until it is not possible to see Real Madrid and PSG face each other in the Champions League. The PSG star wants his future to be resolved before the 2024 Euros tournament this June. An elimination from the Champions League by Dortmund in the semi could mean the announcement of the deal is closer than ever.
Mbappé struggled against Dortmund as PSG has an advantage ahead of the second leg at the Parc des Princes next week. Mbappé had three chances in the match but only had one shot on target throughout the entire game. The French star was close to scoring an equalizer for PSG in the second half, but his shot hit the far post. PSG had a total of 14 attempted shots at the Signal Iduna Park, but it was not their day.
Mbappé played the entire game as Luis Enrique only made two changes in the match when he subbed off Lucas Hernandez in the first half due to an injury and Bradley Barcola in the second half. Lucas Beraldo and Randal Kolo Muani replaced the two players. Dortmund grabbed their goal in the 36th minute after a great over-the-top pass from Nico Schlotterbeck to Niclas Füllkrug, who smashed the ball past Gianluigi Donnarumma. Mats Hummels won the Man of the Match award, but another player was given more praise.
Jadon Sancho was the fan's man of the match
While Mbappé struggled in the match, Jadon Sancho delivered on the pitch after he registered an 88% pass accuracy, 13 duels won, three chances created, and 11 dribbles completed. Squawka reports that Sancho is the first Englishman ever to complete more than 11 dribbles in a single Champions League game. It's been 16 years since the last time a player completed more dribbles in a UCL semifinal: Lionel Messi against Man United in 2008.
