He'll be the second striker the Union adds to their roster for the 2022 MLS Season.

The 2022 MLS Season will start in just over a month and teams are already in preseason camps, preparing for the earliest start for a MLS season, in a year that the schedule will change a bit as the World Cup will be held at the end of the year and not during the summer.

Philadelphia Union needs a striker after trading Kacper Przybyłko to Chicago Fire for $1.5 million in allocation money, who was their most reliable striker on the past 3 seasons, where he scored 34 goals and assisted on 13 times. And it seems that they’ve found his replacement.

Danish striker Mikael Uhre has been linked to the Union in past days, and today, after being absent from Danish side Brøndby IF’s game, his current team informed that they accepted an offer to transfer Uhre to a foreign club. Although it’s an undisclosed club, reports indicate that Philadelphia will be his new team.

Is Mikael Uhre the striker the Union needs?

The 27-year-old striker currently is the Danish league as top scorer, with 11 goals to his name. He’s also recorded two assistances. He joined Brøndby IF back in 2018 as a free agent and in 123 games Uhre has been in the pitch, he’s scored a total of 48 goals.

Although Philadelphia already announced the arrival of Julián Carranza on a loan from Inter Miami FC, Uhre becomes an instant upgrade to the position, as he doesn’t seem afraid to shoot and know how to be a team player, meaning he could be the starter forward for the 2022 MLS Season.

Uhre’s numbers as an international player

Born in Skovlund, Denmark, in 1994, he started his soccer career in SönderjyskE Academy teams, where he debuted in Danish top division in 2013. He was sent on a six-month loan to Skive IK in 2014 and then again for the second semester of 2015.

After ending his contract with his homegrown team in 2018, Uhre joined Brøndby IF, where he’s played until this season. Philadelphia Union will be his first team outside Denmark, although he’s got experience playing international games.

For the current season, Mikael Uhre played two games in Champions League playoffs, where he managed to score a goal. Brøndby IF also had participation in Europa League, where Uhre was a starter on 5 games and score one more goal.

His performances in both Champions League and Europa League earned him his first call with Denmark National Team, as in 2021 had his first official game on UEFA Qualifiers in a match against Scotland, where he played 18 minutes in the 2-0 defeat.

How much is Mikael Uhre worth?

Although the official transfer fee is unknown yet, according to Transfermarkt, his market value has incremented in the past few years since joining Brøndby IF. Currently, he’s worth $3.4 million, a figure that Philadelphia can pay as they’ve sold some of their top players in the past couple seasons.
