Between the two of them, they only scored four goals.

Fernando “Tano” Ortíz was announced as the new coach of Club América on Friday morning, after spending the second half of Clausura 2022 as the interim coach of Las Águilas, helping them leave the bottom of the table and reach semifinals.

Now that he’s officially in charge, Club América are looking for reinforcements for Apertura 2022, starting with a new striker, as Las Águilas lacked a forward that could score consistently, given that between Henry Martín and Federico Viñas could only score four goals in the regular season.

According to reports from sports journalist César Luis Merlo, Las Águilas are interested in acquiring Estudiantes La Plata’s 25-year-old forward Gustavo del Prete, although the Argentine striker managed to score only four goals during the season.

Viñas and Martín will stay for Apertura 2022

Given that Federico Viñas has become Ortíz’s favorite forward, he has his place in América ensured, and Henry Martín won’t leave Las Águilas unless a good offer arrives for him given that he’s a Mexico international, but it seems unlikely due to his poor performances.

Luckily for the Azulcremas, Del Prete is not the only striker that “El Tano” is following, as reports from W Deportes, Club América is also interested in signing Julián Quiñones from Atlas FC, as the Colombian striker has proven to be one of Liga MX’s top strikers.

Emilio Azcárraga knows that signing him won’t be easy, which is why he’s preparing a trade offer for the 25-year-old striker. Julián Quiñones will arrive at Club América in exchange for Roger Martínez, a player that is liked by both Ortíz and Atlas’s coach Diego Cocca, but that has stalled in Las Águilas and could use a fresh start to recover his level, with Atlas being the perfect place for him to continue his career.
