Las Águilas were at the bottom of the table after eight rounds.

One of the best things that happened to Club América during Clausura 2022 was the departure of Santiago Solari after eight rounds of the season, given that it opened the doors for the promotion of Fernando “Tano” Ortíz to the first team.

Club América is after Henry Martín’s replacement for next season

With Santiago Solari, Las Águilas didn’t find a way of compenetrating, which translated into weak performances and poor results, as they only obtained six points thanks to a victory and three ties, which left them at the bottom of the table and their worst start in over 70 years.

But now with “Tano” Ortíz in the dugout, the face of Club América has changed completely, as they now are the only team with a six-game unbeaten streak, as well as the team that’s closing the strongest, which gives them more possibilities of transcending in Liguilla.

Club América proved that they’re a real contender for Clausura 2022 after beating 2-0 Tigres on their visit to Estadio Universitario for the 16th round, as Tigres are one of the strongest teams in Liga MX, which explains why they’re the second place of the tournament.

Azcárraga already decided what to do with Fernando Ortíz

According to reports from TUDN, Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños are deeply satisfied with the improvement that Club América have had since “Tano” Ortíz became Las Águilas interim coach, as they still have a chance of earning a direct ticket to Liguilla.

That’s why they are willing to name him Las Águilas coach for at least another season, even if the goal that was set by the sporting director to keep him as the coach was to reach semifinals, Azcárraga knows that Ortíz is the best candidate to help América win a new title.

As if that wasn’t enough, the same reports are pointing towards a contract extension, as Ortíz had arrived in El Nido to coach the U-20 for a year. Now, Club América are trying to extend him for at least 18 months more.

He’s already looking for new additions

Ortíz knows that even if they are having a great streak on the second half of Clausura 2022, Club América needs to strengthen the squad for next season, that’s why they’re already looking to add a new striker as well as another defender.
