Since Fernando “Tano” Ortíz took over Club América, Las Águilas have left the bottom of the table and become one of the top contenders for Clausura 2022, as they are now on pace to finish the regular season in the firs four places of Liga MX.

Miguel Herrera is afraid of facing Club América even if Tigres have the home advantage

But after the game against Tigres for the round 16 of Clausura 2022, one thing is clear for Club América: they need to find a new striker. Roger Martínez has been playing more comfortable leaving the center of the pitch to play as left-winger.

Alejandro Zendejas has established on the other side of the pitch as right-winger and Diego Valdés now finally has recovered the level he showed with Santos Laguna. But Fernando Ortíz hasn’t found a forward to complement the other three offensive players on the roster.

Sinche Ortíz became the coach of Las Águilas, Henry Martín has lost his place in the starting XI after the Mexico international hasn’t been able to score a single goal since February. But Federico Viñas hasn’t been the answer that Ortíz was hoping to, as he’s scored just one goal in the season.

Ortíz is after the next Cuauhtémoc Blanco

Fernando Ortíz is set to become Club América’s coach at least for the next season, as Emilio Azcárraga and Santiago Baños are willing to keep him in the dugout if Las Águilas make it to the semifinals, something that most likely will happen.

That’s why he’s already looking for new additions for next season, including a new striker who can replace Henry Martín, who is coming to an end with Las Águilas. His successor is already playing in Club América, as Esteban Lozano is ready to prove why he’s one of the most remarkable players in the academy.

The 19-year-old forward currently plays in the U-20 squad, where he’s one of the top scorers of the category, as well as with El Tri U-20, where he’s found in Marcelo Flores a perfect complement for improving his scoring streak.

Ortíz is looking to promote more players

But Lozano is not the only player that “Tano” Ortíz is looking to have in the senior team full-time for the next season, as he also wants to promote Iker Moreno and Karel Campos, players that he knows well as he coached them when he was in the U-20.
