He’s under contract with Pumas until December.

Now that Clausura 2022 is about to end, several teams are already planning what will be their next season, especially the ones that need a new coach, like Club León, Chivas and even Cruz Azul, which is why Pumas are trying to renew Andrés Lillini before the current season is over.

América and Chivas close a perfect week with their interim coaches

Andrés Lillini has become one of the most consistent coaches in Liga MX since he took over Pumas as interim coach for the start of Apertura 2020, after Míchel Gonzalez left the institution just a few days before the inaugural game.

In the four tournaments that he’s coached Los Universitarios, he’s helped them reach one final and one semifinal of Liga MX so far, as they’re still on the race to earn a ticket to Liguilla for Clausura 2022. Lillini also has Pumas in the final of the CONCACAF Champions League, where they’ll face Seattle Sounders.

In the four seasons that the Argentine coach has been with Pumas, he’s coached 86 games so far, from which he’s won 31, tied 30 and lost 25, numbers that are impressive given the limited roster that he has had during his whole stint.

He spoke about his arrival at Chivas

Lillini is under contract with Los Universitarios until December, but his release clause is affordable for any of the teams interested in him, like Chivas, as they will only have to pay two months of his salary in advance, which roughly translates to $50,000.

Given the good performances that Pumas have had during his stint, Chivas are one of the top contenders to acquire his services for the 2022-23 Liga MX season, as they know that he can do what Marcelo Michel Leaño couldn’t.

After the game where Chivas beat 3-1 Pumas, Lillini was asked about his possible arrival at El Rebaño, to which he answered that he feels flattered that he’s been linked with several teams, something that speaks good about his work and its results, although he intends to fulfill his current contract with Pumas before starting to negotiate with another team.

Pumas are trying to renew him

Los Universitarios know about the interest that Lillini has gathered, which is why they’re trying to extend his contract before Clausura 2022 ends. According to reports from ESPN, they offered him an increase from $300,000 to $420,000 per season. But due to his results, Lillini is not willing to accept less than $600,000 per year.
