América and Chivas have had an up-and-down Clausura 2022, but the most popular teams in Liga MX are closing the regular phase on a high note with great runs and both can still dream of a direct ticket to the liguilla and thus avoid the playoffs, something that seemed impossible just a few weeks ago.

Who is Alfonso Alvarado, who made his debut today as a starter with Monterrey?

Both the capital and the tapatío side ended their working relationship with the coach who started the Clausura 2022, Santiago Solari with the Águilas, and Marcelo Michel Leaño with the Rebaño Sagrado, and from that moment on, they transformed their tournament.

The change with Fernando Ortiz

América, after beating Tigres 2-0 away, accumulated their sixth consecutive victory and the last time they dropped points was precisely against Chivas in the Clásico Nacional when they drew 0-0, a match that marked the beginning of Fernando Ortiz's unbeaten streak.

Tano' Ortiz, who has been in charge of the Coapa team for eight games, has a record of six wins, one draw, and one loss, in which América has scored 15 goals and conceded just three, reversing a campaign in which they were last in the general table.

With Saturday's victory over Tigres, América moved up to the fourth place, pending Cruz Azul's performance tomorrow against Atlético de San Luis, but for the moment the Águilas will avoid the playoffs and will be playing against La Máquina for that much-desired ticket to the quarterfinals.

Ricardo Cadena boosted Chivas

The 'Tapatíos' have a very similar story. They lost 1-3 to Rayados at the Akron Stadium, which led to the departure of Marcelo Michel Leaño, and since then they have been on a winning streak. First, they traveled to Mexico City to beat Cruz Azul 1-0, then in midweek they beat Xolos 2-1 and closed their perfect week with a 3-1 win over Pumas to climb to seventh place so far.

Ricardo Cadena, also as interim coach, took the team out of the playoff positions and with a four-game winless streak, although two of those games were lost in the last minutes.

Chivas is in seventh place and at the moment would have to face Atlético de San Luis in the playoffs, but there are still results to come that could change the outlook.

Guadalajara will close the Clausura 2022 next Friday against Necaxa, who will be looking to overtake Ricardo Cadena's team in the general table.

Interim coaches dream with the title

Fernando Ortiz and Ricardo Cadena, two coaches who were far from any plan for the Clausura 2022 for América and Chivas, have now revived them and have the fans excited about the playoffs and the fight for the title.
