Since Cristiano Ronaldo left, he’s become the stop scorer of Los Merengues.

Karim Benzema has become the best player that Real Madrid has on the pitch since Cristiano Ronaldo left in 2018, as no one has more goals than him in the four seasons he’s been the main striker of Los Merengues.

When is the Champions League quarter-final draw? Date and time

Since his arrival in 2009 to the Spanish capital, Benzema has been one of the most outstanding players in La Liga, even if he’s been involved in scandals and for a time Real Madrid followers didn’t want him on the team and asked for his departure.

But Benzema endured and now he has become a fan favorite and is writing his own story with Los Merengues, as he just became the first player to score a hat-trick to PSG in their history in Champions League, showing why he has a light of his own rather to live in the shadow of CR7.

His outstanding performances earned him a new contract this season, as he signed a two-year extension that will keep him in Santiago Bernabéu at least until the end of the 2022-23 season. With the extension, he also got a raise, another reason to keep producing like he’s been doing so far.

What’s Benzema’s salary?

Before the extension he signed this season, Karim Benzema was earning $9 million per season, but according to reports, Benzema had to sacrifice his earnings for the current season by decreasing his salary by 10%, which is why for the 2021-22 season he’s earning just $8.1 million.

Although this seems like a bad deal for Benzema -something that has started to happen more every time a player extends their contract with their long-time club- it also has its benefits for the French striker, as the reduction of his salary for this season will become a 15% increase for the last year of his contract.

That increase translates to a $9.2 million for the 2022-23 season, the highest salary he will receive as a Real Madrid player, although it could also be the last season he plays with Los Merengues, given that when his current contract ends, Benzema will be 35 years old.

Benzema’s numbers with Real Madrid

In the current season, Karim Benzema has played a total of 33 games -all of them as a starter-, between La Liga, Supercopa and Champions League. So far, he’s scored 30 goals and assisted on 12 occasions, including the hat-trick that meant the comeback for Real Madrid in the round of 16 of Champions League.
