The conflict between the two countries could lead to a change in the venue of the final match of the tournament.

Due to the Russia-Ukraine conflict, UEFA would change the location of the Champions League final and they already have a Plan B to deal with the possible escalation of aggressions between both nations.

What is the Plan B for the UEFA Champions League final?

According to information from the Daily Star, UEFA's Plan B would be to take the Champions League final to Wembley, in England, as an emergency plan due to the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine.

Although the organization that manages the tournament has not issued official statements, the English media quoted above states that St. Petersburg, a port city located in the Baltic Sea, would no longer be viable as a venue for the final of the tournament due to the escalation of aggression between the aforementioned countries.

Although Wembley is not a certainty, it is the first option that emerged, although it is not the only one, as there are other cities that could host the final of the UEFA tournament, an organization that has admitted that it is monitoring the situation between Russia and Ukraine.

This would not be the first time that a UEFA Champions League final venue would be changed

The possible change of venue for the UEFA Champions League final is not unfamiliar to the competition as due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the location of last year's tournament final also had to be changed.

Last season, the final was original to be held in Istanbul, Turkey but had to be moved to Portugal due to the COVID-19 issue, the rest is history and Chelsea lifted the title.

And if UEFA continues to monitor the activity between the countries in conflict, it is because it has seriously contemplated the possibility of a change of venue, especially for the safety of the teams and fans traveling to St. Petersburg to watch the match.

What has UEFA said about the possible change of venue for the Champions League final?

Through a press release, UEFA announced that it is keeping an eye on the conflict, but that so far it has not considered holding the match elsewhere.

However, in the same press release they stated that they are keeping an eye on the situation, so a change of venue would not be strange.

UEFA's statement reads as follows: "UEFA is constantly and closely monitoring the situation in Ukraine and Russia. At present, there are no plans to change the venue of the final".

When the change of venue for the Champions League final between Manchester City and Chelsea occurred last year, the location was moved to Porto instead of Istanbul, as Portugal at the time was one of the few places Britons could easily travel to health restrictions due to COVID-19.
