In one of those magical Champions League nights, Chelsea started the match with a solid 0-3 lead, but Real Madrid pulled out the experience and made an epic comeback.

With goals from Rodrygo and Karim Benzema, Los Merengues managed to break down the efforts of Mason Mount, Antonio Rüdiger, and Timo Werner, who had scored the 3 goals that made the Blues dream.

Thus Real Madrid is one of the semi-finalists of the UEFA Champions League 2022 and will face Villarreal.

Chelsea started with an epic comeback

The match started with a very offensive pressing by the Blues, who did not let the Merengues out of their area, with quick recoveries of the ball and setting up plays with just a few touches.

And it was in the 15th minute when Mason Mount opened the scoring for Chelsea when he fired a right-footed shot from inside Courtois' left post.

With this goal, the aggregate was 3-2 in favor of Madrid, but Chelsea's offense was just beginning, as in the 51st minute Antonio Rüdiger would add his contribution to the scoreboard.

From a corner kick from the right, after a cross to the far post, the German defender headed the ball home. Luka Modric, who was trying to mark Rüdiger in the play, fell to the ground, but no foul was called.

The score was 3-3, which sent the match into extra time, and gave the Blues hope, although in the 62nd minute they had a goal disallowed in which, due to a mistake by Mendy at the start, the Blues stole the ball and went on the counterattack.

There was a pass from Kanté to Alonso, who tries to put in a left-wing cross. The ball hit Carvajal and came back to the 3, who shot right-footed into the corner.

But this goal was disallowed due to a handball by Alonso. However, in the 75th minute, there would be another joy for Chelsea, as a filtered pass from Kovacic to Timo Werner, served for the German to cut back to Casemiro, then Alaba, and ended up defining against Courtois.

But that was as far as Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea's hopes would go, as Los Merengues would put the machinery at full throttle to have a comeback in the match.

Rodrygo and Benzema's goals and Courtois' saves gave Real Madrid the win

At the 78th minute of the match Mendy and Casemiro would come off, and Marcelo and Rodrygo would come on.

And the latter would be the factor that would change the match, as in the 80th minute, a service from Luka Modric for Rodrygo's arrival in the area would be taken advantage of by the Brazilian, who would score with a volley shot.

With this goal, the match was tied on aggregate at 4-4, and the duel went to extra time.

And in that instance, in the 96th minute, Camavinga recovered the ball, opened for Vinícius, who served precisely to Benzema, who with a powerful header, sentenced the match.

Thus, the score was 5-4, with which Real Madrid advanced to the semifinals and left Thomas Tuchel's Chelsea in the way.

Thibaut Courtois, who in the 78th minute saved a header from Kai Havertz, thus preventing Chelsea from gaining a valuable advantage that would be reflected in the scoreboard, made a special mention.
