Hugo Sanchez was sure that he was going to succeed Robert Siboldi as Cruz Azul manager. But after an unexpected twist, the appointed one was Juan Reynoso, leaving the former Real Madrid striker without a team to coach some days before the Guard1anes 2021 begins. And Sanchez got very upset at that.
He went to the ESPN TV show Futbol Picante and told the talks were advanced and the budget for him and the whole staff was agreed. The only thing left were the plane tickets that the club had to send him. But at the last moment, the sports director Jaime Ordiales told him that they could not pay him.
The Mexico national team coach between 2006 and 2008 was asked to accept a 50% cut of the budget. and he, disappointed, broke the deal instantly, after weeks of talking about training methods and possible signings. The last time Sanchez managed a team was Pachuca in 2012, so he will have to wait a bit more to make his return.
Now with Reynoso as coach, Cruz Azul will have the challenge of every season, win Liga MX again. After the incredible comeback suffered last season against Club Leon, the Maquina Cementera will try to end with the drought in the domestic tournament, that reached 23 years without successes.
