Gerard Piqué has been out injured for a while and he could take a lot of time to recover. So Barcelona is trying to attract a young player who is already the new Piqué as a replacement.

It is not a secret that FC Barcelona's defence has been awful these last months, with and without Gerard Piqué. And Samuel Umititi is always injured, so the club needs new defenders as soon as possible. So the board members are already looking at replacements. It has been mentioned the name of Lisandro Martínez, but someone else is in their minds.

And they thought, who would be the best possible replacement for Piqué? He has to be from the youth team so he knows the philosophy of the club and counts as homegrown for UEFA rules, or at least be a cheap signing. And of course, he needs to be a good defender with great passing. Fortunately, they found him.

The defender is Eric García. He left La Masía to play for Pep Guardiola at Manchester City. The Catalan coach gave him minutes this year, but García might be thinking about not renewing his contract in England, to expire on June 30th, so he can arrive as a free agent to his boyhood club.

García, a right footed center back who is soon to be 20 years old, is wanted to be signed in January as a free agent. First, an agreement must be reached with Manchester City, and the English club would be keen on letting him go. He has already made his debut with Spain, so him joining would be the perfect signing for FC Barcelona.
