After Jaime “Jimmy” Lozano won the bronze medal with Mexico National Team U-23 squad in the 2020 Olympic Games, he resigned from his position and entered a 6-month hiatus that ended with his arrival in Liga MX side Necaxa, who fired their former coach after just 4 games of Clausura 2022.

But with his arrival in Necaxa, he also closed the door to becoming the next coach of El Tri if Gerardo “Tata” Martino doesn’t manage to win against USMNT, Honduras and El Salvador in the next FIFA match window to be held at the end of March.

Although before signing with Los Rayos he was close to securing his arrival in El Tri if Martino failed, Yon de Luisa decided to take a step back and look for another coach, someone that had more presence in social media and TV, as sponsors need a more mediatic coach.

Who is Yon de Luisa’s option to replace Martino?

Reports suggest that Miguel Herrera has become the favorite option once again, given the charisma he has and that on his previous stint with El Tri he helped FMF sign contracts worth $4 million, something they’ll want to replicate for Qatar.
