Yesterday, Atletico Madrid was surprisingly knocked out of Copa del Rey after being defeated 1-0 by Cornella, a team of the third division. That is not the first time that the Colchoneros lose with a rival of this calibre, because the same happened to them last season against Cultural Leonesa.
But even more surprising was what Diego Simeone said right after the match. He said that things have not gone well in that tournament and, if he is still at the club the next season, will correct that. Nobody expected the part of him not being there, because there were no signs of it.
So he was asked again about his future in a press conference, and Cholo told that he is happy in Atletico Madrid, but everything changes in soccer and he will be open to any new options that might come. That was a strange statement from someone like him, because he has been the coach of Atleti for ten years.
Simeone is rumoured to become the next Inter manager if Antonio Conte leaves. As he did with Atleti, the Argentinian might coach a club he once played for. And after so much time with his current club and not being as competitive as the team was at its peak, he might be thinking of new challenges.
