Sport journalist Luis Castillo said that Almeyda is prohibited at Liga MX, as ex-owner from Chivas Jorge Vergara denounced him for reuniting with businessmen at his time at Chivas vos them to buy the club and replace him. Vergara reunited with his colleagues and revealed this fact about Almeyda, assuring that he won’t get back to Liga MX soon.

The coach is now 47 years old and having a good time at San Jose Earthquakes. He arrived on January 2019 and his contract expires on December 2022. Until now, he was the trainer of the team during 62 matches, winning 23 of them, tying 11 and losing 28. During the past campaign, they qualified to the MLS Cup Playoffs and were eliminated on the first round by Sporting Kansas City.
