Ronald Koeman: what did the Dutch coach said about Lionel Messi after FC Barcelona's Champions League exit?
The manager made an incredible statement about the Argentinean star after the game.
Barcelona could not achieve the heroic in Paris. They could not twist the 1-4 of the first leg in Catalonia and by drawing 1-1 in the French capital said goodbye to the Champions League dream in the Round of 16. At least, the image left was totally different compared to the one shown in the first leg.
That was exactly what Ronald Koeman highlighted at a press conference. Despite the elimination, the Dutch coach praised Barcelona's attitude in Paris. In addition, consulted about what Lionel Messi's future, he commented that the decision will not depend on the performance of the 'Culé' squad today.
"We are out, that's what counts. But we have a good sensation because we had chances to create danger to our rival. We were superior during the first half, risking it all, our attitude was fantastic. We deserved more, at least one or two goals more before halftime. Second half could have been much different", Koeman stated.
With his head held high, the Dutchman added: "The result at Camp Nou was exaggerated. They were effective; we created a lot more than then, but they scored four and we did it only once. We can't blame it on the team because they did a massive wear and a little luck is always required. We couldn't seize the chances we had. We lost but we need to highlight the team's attitude. We are sad but the image has been important".
Consulted about Lionel Messi's future and not knowing what exactly he is going to decide, Koeman praised the evolution that the Argentinean sees in the team: "I see the team is improving with the changes we have done. (Messi's future) won't be a attached to possible doubts he has on the team's future".
