Ronald Koeman's time at Barcelona had more bad times than good for the Catalan club. Appointed as manager in the final months of Josep Bartomeu who ended his tenure at the club amidst several scandals and was arrested by Catalan police as part of an investigation.

There were growing concerns that he would be relieved of his duties when Joan Laporta was elected new president at the end of last season but was allowed to stay on because he was a club legend and Laporta claimed he deserves the respect and right to prove he could be on the job for a long time.

Koeman, despite his popularity as a former player and captain of the club, was not a popular figure as manager among the Barcelona faithful due to many questionable actions which the Cukes were not pleased with. One of such decisions was signing his compatriot Luuk De Jong from Sevilla.

Luuk De Jong's numbers of just 10 league goals in 69 games for Sevilla exemplifies how much of a bad decision it was to sign the 31 year old, just after the departure of Lionel Messi, Antoine Griezmann and the injury to Danish striker Martin Braithwaite.
