It has not been an easy start of 2021 for Miguel Herrera. The Mexican coach was removed from his position in Club America days before the end of 2020 and has now had to pay a big penalty for tax evasion.

As reported by Mexican newspaper Milenio, Miguel Herrera omitted to declare 737,000 Mexican pesos to the Mexican Tax Administration Service. That equals $36.033,85. This started when he was coaching the national team and declared lower incomes than the real ones he earned in 2014.

Including different punishments for the delay and interests, he had to pay a penalty $79,328.06, or 1.6 million Mexican pesos. Apart from this, Herrera has been forced to post a message in national media giving example to the Mexican population to make them pay their taxes in term.

Last December Herrera’s contract with Club América was terminated because he “no longer adjusted to the sports and administrative plan in the medium term”, as the official announcement said. This after the team was knocked out from the Concachampions to Los Angeles FC. Argentina’s Santiago Solari was signed in his place.
