After Meixo lost the Gold Cup final to USMNT, Sanchez recalled his tenure as coach of the Mexican national team, which was cut short due to poor results. However, he considers that the Mexican bench supports a foreign coach more than a Mexican one.

 

 

The former player assured that he was not respected as a Mexican despite having a respected name in Mexican soccer. Hugo Sanchez said he was saddened and upset by the way Mexico lost to the United States, as he believes that the team coached by Tata Martino had options to win the final from the first half.
