In these days, Matias Almeyda is making the headlines in America and Mexico, following his possible departure from San Jose Earthquakes to Cruz Azul. But also, he surprised everybody with some statements he did about his past and his first job ever as a manager.

Almeyda started as a coach in River Plate, the team he played for in two spells and managed right after retiring. Then he went to Banfield and after that he left Argentina to join Chivas. His adventure in Liga MX ended and he found a place in MLS with San Jose Earthquakes.

The coach told he does not want to come back to manage River, ever. According to him, the times he spent there were too stressful, given he coached the first season ever of the club in the Second Division, and had to get the team promoted, what he did. After that, in Banfield he got the same achievement.

Almeyda said the stress he went through at River took seven years of life from him because it meant too much pressure to deal with, and wants to follow the club only as a fan. In that club he managed 60 matches, winning 29, drawing 22 and losing just 9. As a player, he won four titles with the club from Buenos Aires.
