The Portland Timbers where definitely not themselves on Wednesday night in Salt Lake City. The team looked disconnected and incapable of putting Andrew Putna in risk. Giovanni Savarese, their Venezuela coach, understands that the defeat is something that shouldn't haven to a title contender but took the drama out of it.
Savarese praised Salt Lake City's defensive system on a press conferences held today. He said that for the Timbers to unleashed their vertical football style they need to found themselves confortable with the ball, and they were unable to do that because of the pressure RSL's midfielder put on them.
Savarese wasn't happy with the image the team left in the first half. He believes his team lost almost all the first half in getting in position inside the field. It was definitely not Diego Valeri's day, neither. Ebobisse was too isolated and not very inspired. Felipe Mora, who was on a goal-streak, found very few chances to score.
The second half was better and that's what let Savarese confident. The coach praised his players' reaction. He values that the team is still at the top of the West (the Seattle Sounders have a game less) and thinks that the game of this Sunday against Los Angeles FC will be very important for the teams aspirations.
