FC Barcelona are still trying to adapt to the reality that their special magician Lionel Messi is no longer at the club. The team struggled in the final months of the Argentine at the club but his individual brilliance came to the rescue of the club on so many occasions.

Not only Lionel Messi left the club, Antoine Griezmann was also sent back to Atletico Madrid to help free up the club's wages but the club brought in Memphis Depay, Sergio Aguero and other attacking players. This has made Diego Simeone question the talk that Lionel Messi's absence is why Barcelona are struggling.

“Barça don’t have Messi? Look at their team. Sergi Roberto, Dest, Piqué, Lenglet, Araujo, Alba, Balde-17 years old, Pedri, Gavi—did you see him vs Italy?, Dembele, Agüero, Ansu, De Jong, Memphis, Coutinho… You lost Messi? We never had Messi. Nah, don’t give me excuses. Umtiti is a good player, who’s going through a bad spot you can say. It’s the same for Lenglet. He’s an incredibly important center back. Look at how good he was before, important in multiple league titles. Come on man.” Simeone said.

Simeone's words indirectly suggest that head coach Ronald Koeman, who has come under criticism a lot, is the club's problem because they have enough quality players to compete. The Dutch manager is leaving on borrowed time because the club's finances are dwindling.
