Tottenham fired José Mourinho a few days to the Carabao Cup final against Manchester City last season and installed Ryan Mason as interim manager, he led the club to UEFA Europa Conference League qualification before he stepped aside for Nuno Espirito Santo.

Nuno Espirito Santo was fired after just 124days and 17 games in charge and Tottenham turned towards the manager that turned them down before hiring Nuno, Antonio Conte. He has now revealed in his first press conference why he didn't join the London club earlier.

Conte led Inter Milan to the Italian Serie A title in his second season at Inter Milan but left the club on mutual consent due to financial issues which also led to the sale of Achraf Hakimi to PSG and Romelu Lukaku to Chelsea. Conte was approached by Tottenham but turned down because he was still feeling emotionally attached to Inter Milan.

“Last summer our union did not happen because the end of my relationship with Inter was still too recent and emotionally too involved with the end of the season, so I felt that it wasn’t yet the right time to return to coaching”.

Conte signed an 18 months contract as Tottenham are trying to play safe in case things don't go well after paying their last three managers who were sacked about £40m in severance packages.
