FC Barcelona has had numerous coaches but only one has been crowned the world's best club coach. Keep reading to find out who is this coach and to read all about  the historic and unique Barcelona 09’ season.

 

Barcelona and a historic and legendary sextet

On May 8th, 2008, Pep Guardiola, who was called up to replace Frank Rijkaard became head coach of the FC Barcelona. That marked the start of a historic season for the club. 

Barcelona beat a record that year after obtaining six consecutive titles. These were Copa del Rey, La  Liga, Champions League, Supercopa de España, Supercopa de Europa and the Club World Cup. 

Everything started when the team made its first move defeating Athletic 1-4 at the Mestalla Stadium to secure the “Copa del Rey”. After that, the Pep team was preparing to obtain the “Supercopa de España”, this time in the Camp Nou.

Ibramovic and Maxwell made their first appearances for FC Barcelona in the Spanish Cup against Athletic.

In the sixty seventh minute, a penalty was awarded in favor of Barcelona and with it, the team celebrated Lío’s goal for the second time. 

Then, Bojan entered the game to replace Ibrahimovic. Just two minutes later, unbelievably, Bojan scored the third goal. As a result, Barcelona won 3-0 and dropped Athletic to second place. Furthermore, FC Barcelona was awarded the title of  “La Liga” champions immediately after Real Madrid lost to Villareal.

 

 

Barcelona’s next challenges

Guardiola's unstoppable team was preparing to play in the Champions League final that year at Rome's Stadio Olimpico. On May 27, 2009, Barcelona defeated the reigning champion Manchester United 2-0. 

The feat, however, was not going to finish there. The 2009 season continued with the "European Super Cup" in which Ibrahimovic replaced Eto'o and made his grand entrance into the team. The ukrainian team resisted until the last minutes of the game, but Pedro together with Lionel Messi beat the goalkeeper and scored to add a new victory and new trophy to the collection. 

Last but not least, on December 19, 2009, Estudiantes of Argentina faced Barcelona of Spain at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. The Barcelona’s players, Messi and Pedro, made their way; scored and defeated Estudiantes 1-2  to claim the sixth trophy of the 2009 memorable year. 

Barcelona's incredible feat became known as the "sixtete". They accomplished something no other football team had ever done before: they won six consecutive titles and made history. To top it all off, the International Federation of Football History and Statistics named Pep Guardiola, the Spanish coach of FC Barcelona, the world's best club coach in 2009. (IFFHS).
