It’s no surprise to say Mexico National Team is going through a rough patch, especially after last year’s results, where they lost both CONCACAF Gold Cup and Nations League against USMNT, just before losing the first place in FIFA Qualifiers.

Gerardo “Tata” Martino is set to turn thing around for this year, as he’s been eyeing younger players in a much-needed generational change inside El Tri, but there’s still other players he’s not taking in consideration that are still on their prime, but their absence is recurrent.

Carlos Vela has said in the past that he’ll be opened to returning to El Tri if he gets called again, something Yon de Luisa has already approved, and knowing he’s still performing well with LAFC, Martino could use him in the offensive side, as Mexico’s lack of goals is becoming a real threat to El Tri’s aspirations this year.

Why did Martino stopped calling Vela to El Tri?

Although it’s not official, as he’s said multiple times no one is vetoed from Mexico National Team, Vela’s absence has to do with Martino’s decision of having a more disciplined group, something that doesn’t suit well with Carlos Vela, who likes to spend time travelling with his family whenever he can.
