The relationship between Los Angeles Football Club’s striker Carlos Vela and Mexico National Team has grown cold after the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, where he played all the games and even scored a goal against, South Korea in the 2-1 victory.
Even though a lot has said about his recurrent absence, during the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Vela was asked on a press conference if he wished to play again for El Tri, to what he answered that he might be willing to, leaving open the possibility of a future call, especially on a World Cup year.
But in order to join again Mexico National Team, Vela will have one demand: leaving Andrés Guardado out of the squad, something that seems difficult as “El Principito” is one of the most respected players Mexico has and one of Martino’s favorites.
What happened between Vela and Guardado?
Back in 2010, Vela was part of a scandal that involved a party in the hotel they were staying before Mexican players returned to their teams after a call, and it’s rumored that Guardado was one of the players that snitched on him, something that Vela hasn’t forgotten yet.
